Barrett’s Esophagus Update

Barrett’s metaplasia is a first step in the reflux/esophageal carcinoma sequence. This presentation will explore factors that increase the risk of developing Barrett’s; factors which are protective against developing Barrett’s; new less invasive screening methods as well as the details of upper endoscopy and biopsy for diagnosis. Finally, evidence-based preventive and reparative dietary, nutritional, lifestyle and botanical factors will be detailed. The latest research on proton pump inhibition for the prevention of dysplasia and esophageal adenocarcinoma will examined.
