Approaches to Human Health and Nutrition

Through the Lens of the Microbiome

with Andrea McBeth, ND

Have you been wishing for a thorough overview of the human microbiome and its implications for gastrointestinal health?

In this three part series, Dr. McBeth overviews the history of microbiome research, recent innovations that have led to profound discoveries, and how to apply our understanding of the microbiome to treatments for patients.

Andrea McBeth, ND

Andrea McBeth is a Naturopathic Doctor with a passion for shifting perspectives toward microbiome-centered health. She studied molecular biology and has a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of San Diego. Throughout and after her undergraduate education she pursued research in various molecular and cell biology specialties. After spending years working in cancer research and then as a patient advocate for a family member with cancer, she changed paths to become a naturopathic doctor.

As a licensed ND in Oregon and Washington she focuses her clinical care on functional GI and autoimmune issues. In conjunction with that practice, she founded and runs Flora Medicine, a stool bank that provides Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) capsules to treat recurrent Clostridium difficile (C.diff) infection and investigate applications for other microbiome therapeutics.

 Learning Objectives

  • Provide an in-depth understanding of what the microbiome is and what the research is exploring it both pre-clinically and clinically

  • Review how environmental factors, including xenobiotics, nutrition, and preservatives, impact the microbiome health

  • Apply microbiome science to clinical practice for patients with chronic disease. FMT use in C. diff, for example.
