<image:caption>You Can’t Have a Rainbow without a Little Rain Turning Waste into Health Thaena’s mission is to reduce suffering by restoring balance to microbial ecosystems. Our major interest is not in the live microbial components of feces but in the metabolites and by-products, also known as postbiotics. We envision a world where Thaena becomes the leader in providing the tools and resources to integrative medical practitioners to more effectively care for their patients one ecosystem at a time. This is why we have developed an online educational platform dedicated to the microbiome and a lyophilized postbiotic powder to aid in restoring the balance once and for all.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Reflux - Let's Be Real Info Page (Conf 2022) - Steven Sandberg-Lewis, ND, DHANP</image:title>
<image:caption>Dr. Steven Sandberg-Lewis has been a practicing naturopathic physician since his graduation from the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in 1978. He has been a clinical and didactic professor since 1996, teaching a variety of courses but primarily focusing on gastroenterology and GI physical medicine. His private practice is at Hive Mind Medicine in Portland, Oregon (www.hivemindmedicine.org). Hive Mind Medicine is a collaborative practitioner group focused on digestive and mental/emotional health. Sandberg-Lewis is a popular international lecturer at functional medicine seminars, presents webinars and is frequently interviewed on issues of digestive health and disease. In 2010 he co-founded the SIBO Center at NUNM which is one of only four centers in the USA for Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth diagnosis, treatment, education and research. In 2014 he was named one of the “Top Docs” in Portland monthly magazine’s yearly healthcare issue and in 2015 was inducted into the OANP/NUNM Hall of Fame. He is the author of the column entitled “Functional Gastroenterology Bolus” in the Townsend letter and the medical textbook Functional Gastroenterology: Assessing and Addressing the Causes of Functional Digestive Disorders, Second edition, 2017. He is currently in the editing phase of Let’s Be Real About Reflux: Getting to the Heart of Heartburn, a book on underlying mechanisms and the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux. Within gastroenterology, he has special interest and expertise in inflammatory bowel disease (including microscopic colitis), irritable bowel syndrome (including post- infectious IBS), Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), hiatal hernia, gastroesophageal and bile reflux (GERD), biliary dyskinesia, and chronic states of nausea and vomiting. Many of the patients referred to Dr. Sandberg-Lewis have digestive conditions that have defied diagnosis and effective resolution. Often these patients desire naturopathic treatment options in lieu of the courses of treatments they have previously undergone. He understands diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, but also can assess function and often find successful treatments to regain a balance in the digestive system. Dr. Sandberg-Lewis lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife, Kayle. His interests include mandolin, guitar and voice; bicycling; writing and lecturing. functionalgastroenterology.com</image:caption>

<image:title>IFO Block Info Page (Conf 2022) - A Review of Fungal OverGrowth in the Intestines with Mona Morstein, ND, DHANP, VNMI Intestinal fungal overgrowth is a common problem that many patients suffer from; it can occur in the small and large gut. Symptoms oftentimes occur as gas/bloating, constipation, brain fog (a classic indicative symptom), muscle soreness, fatigue, interstitial cystitis, headaches, and if you check Google, pages of other ones. This lecture will comprehensively discuss fungal overgrowth etiology, diagnosis and treatment.</image:title>
<image:caption>Dr. Mona Morstein has been a naturopathic physician for thirty-three years. She was Chair of Nutrition, Gastroenterology professor and Clinical Supervisor at a naturopathic medical school for eleven years. She has her own clinic, Arizona Integrative Medical Solutions, in Tempe, AZ. Dr. Morstein has always worked with patients with gastrointestinal concerns, and she has a busy gastrointestinal focused medical practice, seeing patients with SIBO, IBS-C/D/M, GERD, IBD, gallbladder conditions, etc. She lectures regularly on GI (and other medical topics) at conferences. Dr. Morstein also has an expertise with all hormonal conditions and auto-immune diseases. She is the author of “Master Your Diabetes: A Comprehensive, Integrative Approach For Both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.” In 2012, Dr. Morstein received the AANP “The President’s Award”. <image:caption>Dr. Christina Carew is a functional medical investigator who approaches health with an out-of-the-box problem solving attitude. Her patients love that she breaks what seems like complicated mumbo-jumbo into humorous stories, and digestible information nuggets. She witnesses that empowering patients to better understand their own health leads to better outcomes and healthier lives. Christina became a naturopathic doctor after experiencing her own complex heath journey. Her passion is to make health “easy to understand” for everyone. She is a forever learner, especially around the role our environment has on health, how our gut really is the center of many health concerns and how our mental wellness affects our daily living. This talk will focus on what a biofilm is and how a biofilm behaves in the body. We will discuss how biofilms act when they are in the body to prevent treatments like antibiotics from eradicating infections. We will discuss how biofilms form in the body and what chronic conditions they play a role in. We will discuss what bacteria and fungi are known biofilm instigators. We will discuss how to treat long term biofilm infections. We will discuss both pharmaceutical and natural options that are used to treat chronic biofilms to reverse SIBO, SIFO and other chronic infections that ail the body.</image:caption>

As practitioners who focus on the GI tract, it has long been understood that everything can relate back to how we are pooping. With the deluge of information being revealed about the human microbiota we are starting to unwind mechanisms. Fecal transplant has been at the heart of that revolution. From there, we are starting to appreciate all the tools we have to modulate the microbiome old and new. In this presentation I will deep dive into the history of fecal transplant and its use in clinical trials. In addition, we will look at the regulatory climate and what is next for medicine and the microbiome.</image:caption>
